Consultant Physician Matthias Knuepfer and nurse My take care of Germany's heaviest newborn at the neonatal intensive care ward of the University Hospital in Leipzig, Germany. The Girl child named Jasleen, weighing an extraordinary 6.110 grams ---WALTRAUD GRUBITZSCH/AP

According to NY Daily News:

A baby born in Germany is the country's largest ever, at 13.47 pounds and 22.6 inches long. Though babies of her size are often delivered via cesarean section, rather surprising Jasleen's mother gave birth vaginally.

Though the mother had a previously diagnosed case of gestational diabetes, doctors discovered. The condition usually develops around the 24th weeks of pregnancy and can lead to larger-than-average newborn size.

The doctors confirmed that, the daughter and mother are doing well after the birth, though Jasleen remains in the neonatal care unit, according to the German Newspaper Der Spiegel.

Jasleen takes the title of Germany's biggest baby from a 13-pound boy named Jihad, born in Berlin in 2011.

In March, a British mother gave birth vaginally to a 15 lb., 7 oz. baby named George.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest baby ever was born to Anna Bates of Canada in 1879. The 7'5'' mother and her 7'11'' husband welcomes a 23 lb., 12 oz. baby boy, sadly he died 11 hours later.

Paranoid Boyfriend Sets Pregnant Gf Ablaze!

Tragedy struck in the Ayobo area of Lagos recently after Emeka Agu, 28, allegedly set his pregnant girlfriend, Miss Bidemi Akinsolufe ablaze.

He said he was doing that to prevent the lady from being admired by other men for her beauty.

According to Bidemi, Emeka is a very jealous boyfriend. Bidemi continues to writhe in pain almost a month later at the Gbagada General Hospital, even as Emeka awaits his date with the law.

The following is the victim’s account of events.

“I started dating him last year but my boyfriend is very jealous. Even whenever my sister called me, he would want to call back to be sure it wasn’t a man that called me.

“He was working before and had his own place but he later lost his job and had no place to stay. I secured a mini-flat in Ayetoro and asked him to join me there.

“We had been living together since then.

Recently, when I took in, he asked me to stop working and I did. But he drinks a lot.

“He spends his money on alcohol and I always told him that I was worried that his liver might be destroyed.

“!He doesn’t trust me; he thinks I date other men.

“He used to work in the night as a bouncer in a hotel. The day before he set me on fire, his former boss had summoned him and I thought maybe the man wanted to offer him a job.

“So, on the morning of that day, Sunday, June 23, I called him to know if he had gone to the man’s place.

“As we were speaking on the phone, he told me he was already high. And I asked him why he should spend his money on alcohol when I was hungry at home.

“I was angry, so I went to report him to his friend. His friend then called him and talked some sense into him. But when he knew that I was with his friend, he became angry and accused his friend of sleeping with me.

“He said he would suck my blood for sleeping with his friend. I was even explaining to him that I couldn’t be sleeping around with my pregnancy but he wasn’t convinced.

“He began to call me names, that I was a useless woman. He later said it was all right, that he wasn’t angry again.

“So, I went back home. When I got back home, one of my friends told me that Emeka had reported me to her, saying I locked him outside in the rain.

“So, when I got to our apartment, I begged him and my friend also begged him. He said he was no longer angry but I didn’t know he still had plans to deal with me.

“After a while, he pretended as if he wanted to go to the toilet and while walking past me, he suddenly gave me a terrible slap.

“Then he began to beat me. In fact, I had never been so thoroughly beaten since I was born.

“He had only slapped me on two earlier occasions. That night, I was yelling for help but I guessed people
weren’t hearing me outside.

“I was crying and threatening to pack out of the apartment. “Then he said he would destroy my beauty. But I didn’t believe he would do anything so devilish.

“Then he went to the kitchen, brought out the stove and poured the kerosene on me. He lit a match and threw it at me and I was burning.

“I rushed to the kitchen to get water but he was pushing the buckets of water away. I was yelling and crying.

“Then after some time, he began to say to me: ‘My babe, your face is burnt, I’m sorry’.

“I didn’t even know that my face was badly burnt. I initially thought my hands were the only parts affected until much later when I saw my face in the mirror.

“When he realised the damage he had done, he began to beg me, saying he would marry me. He said I should stay inside, that he would go and get raw pap to apply on the burnt parts of my body.

“But as he wanted to go out of the apartment, I followed him. He said he wasn’t running away, that he just wanted to get the pap and get back. And I said okay, but I was following him.

“He kept pushing me back but I insisted on following him out. Later, one of our neighbours, a man, knocked on our door and asked what was wrong with me.

“He replied that there was no problem but I shouted that the man should come in to save my life.

“I told the man that the door wasn’t locked, that he should push it. Eventually other neighbours came and pushed the door open and I immediately ran outside so that everyone could see me.

“I think that was when I passed out.” After she lost consciousness, some of her neighbours quickly rushed her to the nearest hospital from where she was transferred to the Gbagada General Hospital.

Meanwhile, the neighbours also alerted the police in Ayobo, who came to arrest Emeka.

“He told me it was the devil’s handiwork but I know God would repay him. I leave everything to God. I have been hospitalised here now since then, and my people have been spending money on me.”

“Initially, I thought no man would want me any longer since he had destroyed my face. But my people said no, that they wouldn’t allow me near him again.

“They said he should write an undertaking that he wouldn’t come after me but I’ve been told that, even with an undertaking, he might still try to harm me.

“I will have the baby but he must never ask for my child. I want him to face the music. I want justice to be done,” she said. My only word is that, God serves us women from such devilish men…Amen! To all ladies out there, I beg shine your eyes before you rush into the arms of such man.

Over 7M More Immigrants are needed in the UK!

According to the Mailonline report, Britain will be needing about  millions more immigrants to cope with an ageing population, the official economic watchdog discloses.

The Office for Budget Responsibility said that opening the doors to an extra 140,000 every year for five decades would boost employment and bolster the public finances.

It also warned that pressure on the UK’s healthcare system caring for older people means an extra £19 billion of spending cuts or tax hikes will be needed.

Urgent action is needed or the gains made by George Osborne’s spending cuts will be wiped out by increased spending on the elderly, the OBR said.

The OBR argues that allowing 140,000 immigrants of working age into Britain each year – totaling 7million over 50 years – would fill jobs and raise taxes for Treasury coffers.

It said that if there is a steady flow of immigrants into Britain, government borrowing would rise to 99 per cent of GDP.

But if there is a bar on immigration, borrowing would hit 174 per cent.

‘These results are driven by the assumed age structure of net migration, which tends to be more concentrated in the working age group and hence reduces the dependency ratio throughout the projection period.’

However, David Cameron has pledged to reduce net migration to the ‘tens of thousands’ and last year the number of immigrants fell by 89,000 to 153,00.

Without action to address the burden of an ageing population, the UK will be left with a £65 billion hole in its finances, according to the OBR.

Having an Attitude of Gratitute

Have an Attitude of Gratitude

Isn't it amazing how sometimes we wake up each day and wonder how we so much lucky we are to be awake and witness a new day. it very important taking a few minutes out of our day to think about everything that has happened recently to make you smile. Yeah, it sounds a bit self-help, but according to Lyubomirsky, it works: "When you have to keep coming up with answers to the question 'What am I thankful for?' it forces you to see how the little things you might have overlooked or taken for granted play a role in your happiness."

Banish the Comparisons
Happy people take pleasure in the successes of other people rather than using those successes as a yardstick to measure their own lives. "You can't feel good about what you have if you're constantly calculating how you stack up to others," says Lyubomirsky. The irony is that in order to become less competitive (and a lot happier), you need to drop out of the race. That's not to say you should abandon your goals—it just means you need to start running at your own pace.

Find Meaning in Your Work
A study of a hospital's cleaning staff found that those who described their jobs as bettering the lives of others were more satisfied than those who considered their jobs less worthwhile. Experts also say that those of us who believe we're doing what we're destined to do feel more immediate and long-term happiness. Even if you're not jazzed about your current job, consider how your actions contribute to the common good. Or relish how it gives you the means to participate in pleasurable activities outside of work.

Hang with Happy People
A study done by the University of California at San Diego and Harvard Medical School revealed that "happiness can spread from person to person to person in a chain reaction, through social circles." On average, every happy friend you have increases your chance of being happy by 9 percent. Now if happiness is contagious, don't you want to put yourself in a position to catch it?

Poem of the Day: Time Speaks!

TIME SPEAKS!!!

Time speaks
And when it speaks,
Its voice is loud and clear, not a silent squeak
Or something the human ears cannot pick

They say time is a thief of memories
Because he takes along with him all the beautiful stories
But we forget that on judgement day, the thief always pays back what he stole
And when he pays, he does it seven fold

Time will separate the genuine from the counterfeit
Honesty from deceit
Success from failure;
The unholy from the pure
The Winners from the losers;
The truthful from the liars

Time will expose the liars and the deceivers
And open the backside of the underachievers
Time will show you the enemies and the frienemies
Even if they package themselves nicely like Egyptian mummies

Yes time… Time speaks
And when it speaks,
Its voice is loud and clear, not a silent squeak
Or something the human ears cannot pick

Have you been cheated, or falsely accused
Do you feel that your rights have been abused?
Don’t worry, neither should you despair
'Cause time would soon make everything clear

In the meantime, remember that … Time speaks
And when it speaks,

Its voice is loud and clear, not a silent squeak
Or something the human ears cannot pick

Denrele Gay or Not?

Adenrele Olufemi Edun is one of the renounced name in the Nigerian entertainment industry. He is a guy with such a wild personality and a VJ who has earned a reputation for being really good at what he does.  He was recently interviewed by a close friend of ours as he gives us insight into his style, his last moments with artiste, Goldie, the gay allegations and controversies, among other things.

What exactly was your relationship with Goldie?
Susan Olubimpe Harvey aka Goldie and I were best of friends and whilst in death, we still remain best of friends. I met her in 2006 around the time I featured in Dbanj’s ‘Why me’ video which many artistes loved and also wanted me to be in their video. So I received a call from her and when we met at her house, then she told me she wanted me to be in her video. She gave me the song to go and listen to, but funny enough, I didn’t even listen to the song, but I told her I liked it. I remember she offered to pay me N50, 000, which was a really good deal back then, but I featured in the video without collecting any money from her and that was how we struck our friendship and became very good friends.

What are your memories of her?
We shared a lot of memories together that was so much fun. Since Goldie had been in the industry, there was none of her videos that I wasn’t a part of. We were so close that we practically knew everything about each other. We had the same body proportion, despite her womanly curves. We could both fit perfectly into each other’s outfit especially when I wanted to get something for or her or vice versa. We used the same shoe size, we loved the same taste of perfume and music and we were just so really close.

I remember once when I had typhoid and malaria and Goldie’s last performance was at the Ember Creek. She was to perform with a life band, something she had never done before and that worried her. Artistes like MI, Sasha, Nneka and others had performed and she was the last person to perform. I introduced her to the stage and despite how sick I was we danced so hard at the show that night and it was really fun.

Can you share your last moments with her?
I was with her when she came back from the Grammies and I wouldn’t say I watched her die, but rather, I saw her die. I was at the hospital and I saw as she was taken to the morgue and I can say whilst in death, we still had the connection.

News had it that you said Goldie died in your arms…
I guess I was misquoted because I didn’t say anything of such. What happened was that I was there when she got back and she just started complaining of headache that came from nowhere. She started crying and gasping for breath. So we rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

I couldn’t easily comprehend what happened because she had never been sick and the only thing that ever worried her was flu and cough. But I guess people wanted answers at the time and because I couldn’t talk then, they started making generalisations. It was a crazy period for me and I also went through a lot after her death.
Some also say you introduced her to drugs.

What’s your take on that?
Goldie and I never did drugs. The only thing we ever took was white wine, which wouldn’t even exceed one glass. She loved white wine and I started drinking it because of her. There was never a time that drug was involved between us and I guess people just misunderstood what they saw, because they found it hard to see two friends in the same industry who do not see themselves as competitors or rivals, but rather looking out for the best interest in the next person. And such was the world of Goldie and I.

You had issues with her family over her death…
Well, I believe when you are friends with someone and something like this happens, the family would want to know what actually happened and the only person to give the answers would be the closest friend.

Fortunately for me, the day Goldie came back, her younger brother was at my house, he had been around two days before then. Goldie never told me she was coming back that day, as she wanted to surprise me. So I’m grateful her brother was around. But as Yoruba, such scenario is not farfetched and more so, the family needed answers and felt there were mysteries involved. So I was in the middle of it all and there was nothing I could do, than to live through it.

You were supposed to start a reality show together...
Yes and it had even started airing. Actually I was approached to a do a reality show, where I would be followed for a couple of weeks and it would be documented. So I decided to do it with her because it was at the point when she came back from Big Brother Africa (BBA) and things weren’t going on too well for her. Many Nigerians judged her from what they saw on BBA, so I felt it was a way to break the jinx and it was exciting.

What was the craziest thing you’ve ever done on the red carpet?
I remember way back that there was a particular lady that I asked if she had underwear on and she said no. I asked her if I could see and she said yes. So I open her blouse and peeped through, it was really funny. Another presenter also tried the prank and he got slapped, so then I realised I could probably get away with anything.
Also there was a moment on red carpet when I threatened Senator Remi Tinubu that if she didn’t grant an interview, I would put my leg out and she would fall flat on her face. I could have gotten slapped or worse because it was risky to have said that, but she saw the humour in it.

Talking about your personality, who is Denrele in and out of the house?
I don’t think there is a clear distinction between the two. I’m the same person both indoors and out there and the way I relate with my audience is the same way I relate with my family. The only side of me I might say people don’t know is that, I’m very sentimental when it comes to my family and I’m very strict with my siblings.
So I’m just the same person; fun loving, unpredictable, wild, and as some would say, humble. I don’t have a personal assistant, a manager or a PR person. I do most of the things myself.

When exactly did you grow into this personality?
I used to be very shy when I was much younger and for the transformation, I would guess that it was the environment where I grew up, because as a young person, I never had the opportunity to express my individuality. It was not until I got out on Kiddie Vision 101 that I decided to evolve into somebody else.

Although I was still a bit shy and I couldn’t put my hair out, so I would tie a scarf and afterwards use a hairnet, so that my hair would be suppressed. Also I would wear baggy jeans and shirts because I was little worried about how skinny I was. I felt I look unhealthy and I had a little insecurity about how I looked. But when I gained admission into UNILAG, I wasn’t sure and by then I used to wear face caps, but then I got into modeling. The first person I ever modeled for was Kesse Jabari and that encouraged me that my skinniness was worth something.

So I would cut the two shirts and jeans I had then into different designs and make my hair into different styles. Everyone in UNLAG thought I had gone mad, my lecturers were outraged and even my close friends refused to work with me. At that point, I had a lot of negative criticisms. But my parents were very supportive, they know I don’t drink, smoke or womanize, so they just let me be. But I also had the negative attitudes from some of my family members. All I wanted to do was express my individuality.

So is Denrele gay?
I think people believe what they want to believe.
But a lot of people believe you are. And to prove them right, a picture of you Charley Boy went viral on the internet recently…

I don’t read the news, I make the news. The thing is people tend to look for loopholes when they see you doing well. And since people feel I’m feminine in nature, then they think I’m gay. But the truth is I don’t really care about what people say because I’m not fashioned according to what the society expects. And also I think for my personality, if I were gay, the news would have grown from speculations and would have been in people’s face.
On the part of Charley Boy and me, I was not expecting the paparazzi that came with the picture.

So what was the picture about then?
I really don’t want to go into details, but it could have been a controversial agenda, it could have a been a publicity stunt, it could have been the real deal and it could have been photoshopped, but whatever it was, people should just go ahead and make their conclusions.

So why is Denrele still single?
I’m a hustler and I’m still trying to get myself together. When the time comes, I’ll get married definitely, but there’s no one in the picture now. I’m searching and ready to mingle.

Who is your ideal woman?
I like someone who would not try to change me and who would understand the complexity that I am. I want someone simple and absolutely free and not intimidated by what I represent.

Family background
My dad is from Abeokuta in Ogun State, while my mum is partly Indian and part Mauritian. My Indian name is Rajeev Raja. I was born in Hamburg, Germany and I have two younger sisters that are really so dear to me.

How was your childhood?
I was not born with a silver spoon, but I’ve worked very hard to create one. Although I grew up under a privileged family and at a point life was rosy, then my father lost his job and everything became a reversal of fortune. I had to leave private school I was attending and we had to move out of her duplex. I remember at a time, we were living in an uncompleted building. Everything was just crazy, at a time I had to live with an uncle, where I was more like a house boy, but eventually I was kicked out of the house in the middle of the night and it was during this time that I felt the need to strive for self independence and this process of self actualization started when I was about 11, when I started presenting on Kiddie Vision 101 on NTA.

Words for your fans
I want to appreciate everyone that has appreciated, celebrated and acknowledged me over the years.

US to make visa application process easier for Nigerians.

The US Consul-General, Mr Jeffery Hawkins, on Wednesday, said that the American government was determined to make visa application process easier for Nigerians.

Hawkins said this in a paper he presented at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Lagos, on “US and Nigeria Bilateral Relationship.”

He said that the move was part of the government’s effort at promoting “people-to-people” relationship between Nigeria and the US.

He said that the consulate had recruited additional staff and installed new equipment in order to facilitate visa processing for Nigerians.

``My goal is to make visa application process painless and pleasant for Nigerians.

“I am happy to say that the waiting time for Non-Immigrant Visa appointment is now just a fraction of what it once was. “We can always improve; but I am proud of the work we have done to serve our Nigeria visa applicants, `` he said. The envoy also restated the commitment of the US to create opportunities for young Nigerians to visit the US.

Hawkins said that the government had concluded an arrangement to invite “very special set of Nigerian guests” to the US in 2014.

He further said that the US government would continue to sustain its bilateral relations with Nigeria in the years ahead.

Hawkins said that a US delegation, led by Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Ambassador Wendy Sherma, would be in Abuja on August 15, for the US and Nigeria Bi-national Commission.

Nigeria’s crude oil earnings hit N6.7 trillion in first half of 2013...

NIGERIA earned $42 billion (N6.7 trillion) revenue from crude oil export between January and June 2013.
Meanwhile, the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) has put the country’s earnings from the commodity in 2012 at $93 billion (N14.8 trillion).
EIA, which made this disclosure in its fact sheet on international crude oil revenue, released last week, estimated that the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), earned $982 billion in net oil export revenue in 2012.
Nigeria earned higher income from crude oil export, compared to Angola, which earned $68 billion in 2012 and $33 billion between January and June 2013.
Then question on the lips of so many Nigerians especially those of us in the diaspora is that, what is the Nigerian government turning all these revenue into, because it simply seems that nothing is not changing...
We do hope the government will borrow a leaf from the great likes of countries, who uses their immense good wealth to turn their country around...though.

Top Affordable Protein Sources and Why You Should Base Your Diet Around Them

1. Canned Tuna [40g protein per can]
2. Eggs [6g protein per egg]
3. Pork Mince [20g protein per 100g]
4. Chicken Breasts [31g protein per 100g]
5. Frozen Wild salmon [25g of protein per 100g]
6. Peanut butter [23g protein per 100g | 5.3 protein per serving] 7. Greek Yoghurt 2% [10g protein per 100g]
8. Milk 3% fat [8g protein per cup]
9. Canned giant beans [6g protein per 100g, 15g per can]
10. Whey Protein [1 scoop of whey is 25g in which around 20g, depending on the brand, is protein] At two scoops a day a 10lbs container will last you around ten weeks.

If you buy discounted meat with 30% off you’ll save a significant amount of money and from my point of view there is nothing wrong with meat that was full price yesterday and is discounted today. I often buy in bulk whenever there is special offer or a promotion and freeze the meat. I make my own burgers from pork or turkey mince and freeze them for a later date. Meat can be frozen for up to two months just make sure you separate the portions so you don’t have to defrost the entire container – once you defrost something you can’t put it back in the freezer.

I prefer to buy low fat milk and yoghurt simply because I don’t need the extra calories. If you are skinny and you need to gain weight go for full fat. If you drink a litre of full fat milk a day it’ll help you gain higher muscle mass.

Frozen wild salmon isn’t all that expensive especially if you wait for better offers at the nearest supermarket. I often buy wild salmon to have it at least once a week with rice and steamed vegetables. You can also find it canned which will be an even better option than tuna. Also keep in mind that tuna is high in mercury so I wouldn’t suggest you eat more than 250g a day.

Beans may not be everyone’s food of choice but they are cheap, accessible and easy to make (re-heat in the microwave and you are done). I often buy whole boxes of giant beans in red sauce to have during the week with whole wheat tortillas. A plate of hot giant beans + 2 tortillas will give you 25g of protein.

I used to have reservations about the tabs of protein powder bodybuilders buy. After all, that was not my intention to get bulky or use some cheesy magic foods to improve my fitness. For me, if it comes in powdered form it should be approached sceptically at the very least. Of course, when I struggled to gain any muscle (never mind big) I started looking up other sources of protein but eggs and chicken (there is only so much I can physically eat during the day).

Then I came across whey protein which is in fact a by-product of cheese production and that seemed to make sense to me. There are different types and health claims (anti-inflammatory or anti-cancer properties) attributed to protein powders and there aren’t any actual draw backs to speak of except of milk allergies some people might experience. I use it as a supplement for my post- workout protein blends. I usually make a blend with a low fat yoghurt, fruit or berries of any kind and that counts as a micro-meal. Basically, that’s just enriching an ordinary yoghurt with high amounts of protein. I prefer ordinary whey protein to any super mixes or engineered formulas (you can never trust an engineer! : )

Of course, my absolute favourite is Greek yoghurt. I can eat it all day with a little bit of cinnamon sprinkled over the top. It tastes great and it keeps me feeling full. Actually, apart from my home made protein bars Greek yoghurt is the best hunger killer, for me personally.

The more muscle you have the more calories you burn daily – muscle is kind of high maintenance energy wise. People who try to lose weight often overlook the importance of muscle growth that will actually aid them in burning the fat later on. If you are afraid to get bulky make sure you get enough cardio in your training as your body optimises the muscle density is not going to increase but stay lean. Runners can’t get huge muscle because of that, for example. Your body is smart and it optimises itself for the lifestyle. If you eat carbs and sit on your arse all day long it’ll take the shape of your sofa. If you run daily and you eat protein you’ll get a lean muscled body. It’s very smart that way. If growing big muscles and gaining weight is your goal you’ll need to eat extra high protein meals during the day for higher calories intake. The more calories you eat the more building material you’ll have. If you need to lose weight protein diets are the best. Low calorie diets may work fast but you lose too much muscle in the process and then gain fat back a lot faster. If you keep your meals high protein and low fat you’ll not just lose weight but you’ll get to see the muscles you already have. As a runner I often carry an extra few pounds on me for my long runs but if I need to drop them I often use protein diets to shed the weight.

A sample meal plan would be:
Breakfast: 3 whole eggs with spinach or olives Snack [only if you absolutely need to]: 200g low fat Greek yoghurt

Lunch: 1 can of tuna with lettuce salad
Post workout: 1 scoop whey blended with 250g yoghurt and half a banana

Dinner: 150g chicken breast with brown rice & broccoliBefore bed [only if you absolutely need to]: 200g low fat Greek yoghurt with berries & flax seeds

More extreme version:
3 eggs whites fried for breakfast
Container of Greek yoghurt 500g with cinnamon - spread during the day.
1 scoop whey blended with 250g yoghurt- post-workout
Lean meat or fish (chicken, very lean pork or salmon) grilled with steamed vegetables for dinner

A Tale of Two LoveBirds: I'm quitting because his mummy doesn’t likeme! Part 1

“I cannot do this anymore oh, I have reached rock bottom with this God forsaken relationship. Which kind of rubbish is this one? I am so sick and tired of coming in between him and his mother. And I think it is insane that he keeps saying I am the one with the problem. Even a blind Elephant can tell that he is a confirmed mama’s boy. If this messed up relationship leads to marriage na me go dey cry every blessed day. Na wa oh, He cannot even stand up for me. See my life. I am ending this thing once and for all and no amount of begging will work on me, me I have said my own”

That’s a lot to take in right? Well let’s start from the very beginning.

Yomi and Yetunde met right before they got into the university and it was all puppy love. Life was good or so they thought. Being young dreamers, they both decided that they wanted to go to the same university, probably the one in Abuja. The reason was so they could be home but away from home. Wishes do come true. They both got admission, however this was short lived because Yomi came with a different gospel. He had to go to the UK to further his studies just like his dad did or so says his mum. Yetunde was unhappy, but she went along with it, after all, what choice did she have?

She was a bit sad, because she felt it was just Mrs Ademola’s way of pulling her son away from her. She still remembers when she first met Yomi’s mum. She wasn’t particularly excited to see her and she had often heard phone conversations between mother and son on how she was way below his league and not suitable to hang around their lot. Yomi at the time would always shrug his mother off, and even though she felt he ought to do more in terms of standing up for her, she kept quiet and decided to let it slide. After much persuasion Yomi as usual obeyed mum’s wishes and accepted to do his studies in the UK. He was away for 7 years. Yes he called and came home regularly but the relationship would have gone south, if not for Yetunde’s mum. She encourage her to hold onto her man, after all is it easy to find a ready- made husband in this day and age?

When he came back, his family had a job ready for him and although he wanted to stay close to the mainland, so he could be near Yetunde, his mother declined and went ahead to get a house for him at Ikoyi, according to her, “there are certain parts of town that a man of your status CANNOT live in“. By this time, the fights between the two love birds had greatly heightened. The killer was when Yomi hinted that she should do something about her financial status, so his mother would accept her, after which he stressed the fact that he was unwillingly to break the heart of the woman (his mum) who has over tried for him. She couldn’t hold it any longer. She gave it to him, stating it is absolutely foolish to apologize just because she wasn’t born with a silver spoon in her mouth and if he can’t handle her “lowly status” then they are better off apart. He demanded that she apologize for her outburst or else…

And once again we return to Yetunde’s thoughts.

“I’m always the one that is sorry. I am not apologizing anything. Me I have tried. Which dirty ready-made husband is this one? If my mother no gree, na her business, I cannot go where na so so cry cry I go dey do everyday oh. Why can’t this boy just tell his mother to stop butting into his life?” There is a knock at the door, She opens it. Yomi is standing there, looking at her, waiting for a response…. (To be continued, watch out for part 2, Yomi part of the story)

* Meanwhile What do you think Yetunde should do? I want to hear your comments!

How to Make a Smoothie - Apple, Pear and Yoghurt

Some days you'll have so many fruits you don't know what to do with. Or you just feel too lazy or tired to chew your crunchy fruits. One way to enjoy eating such friends is to make them into a smoothie. I find that I consume twice as much fruits when in a smoothie, than not. You could juice the fruits, but with a smoothie, nothing gets lost. One evening, Atala and I did just that to some apples and pears we had.

Ingredients
1  cup plain low-fat yogurt
2  meduim size Bartlet Pears, cored and cut up
2  Fuji Apples, cored and cut up
1 cup of orange juice
1/2 cup ice cubes

Directions
1. Blend the yoghurt, cut up apple and pears, with the fruit juice on high speed. Add the ice cubes slowly till you get the consistency you want.

These fruits can be replaced with others of your choice. Enjoy!
