How To Get That Luscious Kissable Lips This Festive Season

Today's post is a tip on getting nice, smooth, healthy looking lips this season. The lips are a very important part of the body, and one of the main attractions on anyone's face. The last thing you want to have are crusty, cracked, blistered lips especially if you are one who will be spending the season with your spouse.

For those who enjoy biting their lips, and i don't mean in a sexy way, but biting and cutting of cracked skin till it bleeds, that ish aint sexy, at all.

Now how do you get your lips looking plump and fresh like the picture above you ask? One word, exfoliate. Regular exfoliation is the best thing you can do to not only your skin but your lips too. I'm going to tell you how to achieve this; you need the following;
Brown Sugar - serves as a good scrub, helps remove dead skin effectively while leaving a sweet taste in your mouth.

Natural Honey - has very good nutrients and will help to lock in some moisture in the lips

An old toothbrush - Because it been used a lot, the bristles wont be as hard as a new one. You aren't trying to make your lips bleed, all you need is to buffer them a bit.

Sweet lip balm to help moisturise your lips. Always have some handy!

STEP 1:

Put a teaspoon of brown sugar into a small clean bowl and add a table spoon of honey to it. Mix it together till you have a nice grainy paste.

STEP 2:

Take some of the sugar-honey mix with the old toothbrush and scrub your lips. Scrub them just like you brush your teeth, use gentle circular movements. Brush the upper lip from side to side, open your mouth a little and get the inside lip, do the same to your lower lip.

Just think of where you would normally cover when applying lipstick.

STEP 3:

After doing the gentle lip brushing for about a minute, rinse off with luke warm water, pat dry with a clean towel and then a very important part...

STEP 4:

Apply a good moisturizer on your lips, flavored lip balm, chapstick or just good ole regular Vaseline will do just fine.

I recommend you exfoliate your lips once or twice a week to keep them looking nice and luscious. If your lips look good, you look healthy and you can get the lipstick effect below easily.

Seasons greetings from us to you, and we wish you fantastic 2014 as the year a wrap up!

9 Most Ineffective Ways To Moisturize Your Natural Hair

You have heard it before, over and over again — moisture is everything when it comes to natural hair health. Still, many women with naturals struggle with keeping their curls, kinks and coils well-moisturized. Perhaps you’re guilty of one of our 9 ineffective moisturizing practices. I will be sharing some good healthy tips for those of us who wear our natural hair.

1. Moisturising dirty hair/hair that has product buildup.

One main objective of moisturizing is to apply water-based product that penetrates the cuticle (outer layer) of the strand (hair) and infuse the cortex (inner layer) with water. If there is too much dirt or product on your cuticle, then there’s little chance that any moisturizing product you apply will make it to the cortex.

2. Using butters or oils as moisturizers.

With the exception of a few oils, like coconut oil, that can penetrate the strand — oils and butters will sit on the OUTSIDE of your strand because they are SEALANTS, not moisturisers.

Their purpose is to lock in moisture — not apply it. If your hair is feeling dry, and you apply a butter or oil, you are just weighing down dry hair, making it more brittle and susceptible to breakage.

3. The use of water based products without sealing.

Just like oils and butters aren’t effective as moisturisers, water-based products — and water itself! — isn’t effective at moisturizing unless it’s sealed in. Water quickly evaporate out of  the cortex unless a sealing product is applied to the lock it in.

*Note: This is why Spritzes are a great daily moisturizing solution as they contain water, which penetrates the cuticle, as well as oils, that seal the water in. While they aren’t heavy-duty enough to provide long-term moisturizing, they are great as a daily refresher, in between moisture and seal sessions.

4. Under-moisturizing.

Just like your body can be thirsty way before your throat actually feels parched, natural hair can need moisture way before it feels crunchy and dry. You should start by moisturizing your hair at least once a day. If, in the following hours, your hair feels wet and mushy, you can cut your moisturising down to every other day. If it still feels dry, then you might need to up your moisturising to twice daily.

5. Sometimes neglecting the re-moisturizing process after a shampoo.

Am sure some of us are guity of this. it is important that we know that shamponing is a bit of a paradox when it comes to moisturizing — you are dousing your hair with water, while also stripping your strands of dirt and natural oils that help lock in moisture. So, in a sense, your hair is getting dryer as it gets wetter. The squeaky, super dry feeling your hair has after a shampoo is lack of lubrication, and its critical that it be replaced.

Be sure to deep condition after every shampoo and follow up with a moisturize & seal. Appy first to the palms rubbing it in thoroughly before direct contact with hair.

6. Using styling products as moisturizers.

The primary purpose of styling products is NOT to improve the health of your hair. Just like the primary purpose of moisturising products is NOT to sculpt and style your hair. There are some crossover products that can do both, but most will not. Liquid styling products might look tempting as a fill-in or substitute when you need a moisturizer but they might contain alcohols and mineral oil that will dry your hair out in the long run.

7. Focusing on roots instead of ends.

Your ends are the driest part of your strands and which are most susceptible to breakage. The natural oils that your scalp secretes don’t travel down far enough to coat your ends, so it’s important that you are proactive in protecting them. Work moisturizing product into your hair from root to tip.

8. Over Moisturizing.

Properly moisturized strands don’t feel soggy and wet, they feel supple and strong — even when they’re dry. Applying too much moisturizing and sealing product can leave your hair perpetually wet, making it difficult to style. Be even-handed with your product application.

Also, not only will it make styling easier, but it will save your bed spread, couches, car seats, and anything else your hair comes into contact with.

9. Deep conditioning/steaming for hours While there are a few treatments, in the market that require long-term application, most deep conditioning treatments need 30 minutes or less. Many naturals feel that keeping treatments on overnight helps with softness and moisture, but an increasing number are realising that 30 minutes (or whatever time the product instructions say) is just as effective
as 8 hours.

Keep in mind that the makers of your conditioner have tested the product, and
know how much time it takes to be effective.

Are you guilty of anything on this list? What are some ineffective moisturizing practices that you have been guilty of?

APPLYING THE RIGHT FOUNDATION

Every lady wants her face looking perfectly blended and flawless when she's going out. well, there's only one way to get that flawless looking skin if you don't already have it. Buy a good foundation.

Foundation is one makeup accessory you don't want to stay away from. It helps brighten up your face, especially when your skin is stressed. Lots of ladies already have one of these in their makeup bags/purses but using it is usually a problem. Its either because they got the wrong shade of foundation, thereby making their face too white or dark. Sometimes, buying the wrong product is usually the problem.

For me, the best bet when it comes to foundation is either Mary Kay (above) or Maybelline (below) matte wear foundation. I've heard people make comments about these products, saying they aren't the best for our weather. well, you all are wrong.
These foundations come in different shades and skin tone blends that suit all kinds of skin colour, so all you need to do is pick the right shade.

I'm not trying to promote these brands but they work perfectly well for me and are readily available in most stores. I always advice people to buy a foundation sponge. Its the best if you aren't a professional in makeup application, so leave the foundation brush to the pro's who'll know how to use it without leaving crack lines on the sides of their faces. There's also nothing wrong with using foundation everyday, as long as you wash your face every night when you get home.

Guidelines To Perfect Foundation Application

- Before buying your foundation, make sure you do a quick test. This test is carried out by applying and blending a little amount of the foundation on your jaw line and not on your hands because the foundation is for your face not body. Also, some peoples faces are darker than the rest of their body so using your hands as your ''buy guide'' might just help you pick the wrong shade.

- After picking the right shade of foundation, apply a reasonable amount on the sponge and rub all over the face, covering every contour and corner.

- Ensure you blend into your hair line, ears and down your jaw to your neck line and even your chest, if you are wearing something that'll expose your chest.

- Never apply an extra coat of foundation on already dry layer of foundation.

- Some people also say you shouldn't apply foundation on your eyelids but I'm saying you can, only if you don't have an eye primer, which most people don't except you are totally into makeup.

- If you have really oily skin, I advice that you skip moisturizers or facial creams before applying your foundation.

- Once you are done applying your foundation, let it dry out a little to avoid you face looking caked after you apply your powder.

- Dust your brown powder all over your face to set the foundation.

Thanks a lot for reading through, please leave your comments, contributions and questions. We will be glad to reply and help resolve any part you don't understand

Whats Your Take on Men on Floral Pattern Designs

Talk about a controversial collection. Top designer 'Tom Ford' recently released his spring 2014 mens' wear collection and tongues are wagging. The collection features bright bold colors, floral and brocade fabrics not forgetting the trending loafers.

Fashion Critics are saying the collection 'allegedly' insults men's masculinity! Personally, the designs are awesome, I just feel it's not that kind of trend that can pull of by all but with a good styling, it could work.

Though there is nothing wrong with deviating from the norms and when it comes to pushing the edge, I am definitely a huge fan of that ( as long as it's done rightly). See more of the collection below and let's have your thoughts.

Guys, would you consider wearing a florals? Would the ladies also consider putting their men in floral patterns?

[Fashion] 9 Must Have Items in a Woman's Closet

We are all guilty of falling into a clothing rut from time to time. Even those of us with the best of intentions get stuck wearing our “uniform” day in and day out. But while you may look great in said uniform, there’s no reason to keep buying the pieces that are already hanging in your closet.

Whether the items that you continue to purchase are already stallions in your wardrobe stable, or magazines are declaring that these are must-have items, we are telling you to step away from the stores. We took a quick poll and it turns out that most women suffer from an addiction to one kind of piece, whether it’s black blazers, statement necklaces or leather jackets. A colleague at the Uni described her addiction to designer handbags: “I have three and am currently debating if I need a fourth. I don’t, but you know…”

Resist the urge, ladies! You only need one of each of these items. Really.

1. Leather jackets. One black leather jacket will suffice. If you’re brave, try one in a bold color. But other than that, it’s unnecessary, unless you’re a pilot.

2. Handbags. They are hard to resist, especially when you consider the cost-per-wear. However, the truth is that you can only carry one at a time, so most of your collection gathers dust. Back away.

3. High heels. See number two. The same goes for footwear, whether it’s sneakers, platforms, heels or boots. Remember, you only have two feet and can only wear one pair of shoes at a time.

4. Black dresses. Yes, they are versatile. One staffer said, “I must own 15 of them. I can easily talk myself into buying them by thinking, ‘This is so practical, and it’s SO different from all my others.’ But let’s face it, no one else on the planet notices the difference. They’re all just black dresses.”

5. Skinny jeans. We all have that one pair of jeans that fits perfectly, even after a few cheeseburgers. The rest just take up valuable closet space.

6. Jackets. Yes, they can make any outfit look polished. But there’s a limit to how many one needs. As one colleague said, “Some day I’m going to wake up and find I have a closet full of jackets and nothing to wear underneath them.”

7. Tights. They are a staple in the winter. But like underwear, we probably wash them at least once a week, and therefore don’t need more than five pairs of hosiery. One colleague admitted to an overgrown stash: “I think I have 23 pairs of tights. I’m not sure how necessary that is.”

8. Coats. Linda Fargo, senior vice president at Bergdorf Goodman, was quoted recently as saying that one must have a “wardrobe of coats.” We are guessing that she has a lot of storage to go along with her collection of outerwear. We, on the other hand, need to refrain. As one colleague said, “I have WAY too many. I just can’t help myself, they make any outfit look a million times better.”

9. Bright pants. Solange Knowles has inspired us all. But we are wondering if at some point we are going to look at our bold patterns and prints the same way we looked Hypercolor shirts — as outdated. One staffer described her addiction: “It’s a problem. I have at least 10 different pairs and show no signs of stopping.”

With all afore listed, ladies you don't have to worry a out what to wear from all those junks we sometimes keep in our closet.
