Grandma 53 arrested over 1kg of cocaine hidden in her hair

A 53-year-old woman, Giwa Ayoka Sikira has been arrested by officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja today with cocaine found ‘neatly hidden’ in her hair.

Officials of the agency say the woman was on her way to Pakistan when the substance was discovered.

“The suspect, Giwa Ayoka Sikirat concealed the drug in her beautiful hair style while trying to board an Ethiopian airline Flight ET 910 to Pakistan en-route Addis Ababa and Dubai,” NDLEA said in a statement.

Joseph Umunna, her 59-year-old accomplice was also reportedly arrested by the NDLEA officials.

According to the NDLEA Abuja Airport commander, Hamisu Lawan “There was no prior information on Giwa as the drug was detected when a female officer carried out a body frisk on her during outward screening of passengers.”

The report further stated that both suspects will be charged to court in line with the NDLEA Act for unlawful exportation and conspiracy to export 1kg of cocaine.

Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade while condemning the arrest said that it was morally bankrupt for a 53-year-old mother to smuggle drugs, saying “I commend our officers for detecting the drug hidden in the suspect’s hair.

It is sad for a 53-year-old mother to smuggle drugs. This shows that she is morally bankrupt and lacks the courage to inculcate discipline in her children.”

Giwa is from Kwara State
